The following is adapted from Chapter 3, “Logic Is Not the Answer.”
In Intuitive Certainty, I share how I spent many years dismissing what I already knew. Do you do that, too?
It’s not because the answer wasn’t there, but rather that I consistently questioned myself, looked for information, and allowed the voice of others to drown out my inner knowing, my wisdom
When Intuition Gets Lost in the Noise
In researching Intuitive Certainty, I spent countless hours interviewing experts and exploring the science and experience behind intuition. Executive coach and author of WTF: Women That Flourish, Danielle Sprouls, offered a perspective that helped distinguish intuition from the emotions and experiences that can cloud it.
Danielle offered this observation. Most of the time, our intuition is accurate. The challenge arises when old fears, unresolved experiences, or emotional reactions become intertwined with what we are sensing in the present moment.
“Eight times out of ten, I’m reading a situation right,” she told me. “And the two times I’m not, it’s because it’s saddled with some sort of emotion or historical experience I’m attaching to the present moment.”
Her insight highlights an important distinction. Intuition itself is often clear. What creates confusion is the lens through which we interpret it.
Curiosity Creates Clarity
Rather than dismissing those inner nudges, Danielle encourages us to become curious about them. Curiosity creates space between reaction and response. It allows us to explore what we are sensing without immediately judging it or explaining it away.
The practice is deceptively simple: pay attention, remain open, and consider the possibility that your inner knowing may be seeing something your logical mind has not yet fully recognized.
If you’ve been living on autopilot and making decisions because they’re what you’re supposed to do, this is your wake-up call. You’re not here to simply survive by following the rules. You’re here to create, to experience, to live a life that feels like yours, not society’s. And the map to that life isn’t written in logic. It’s written in the language of your own intuition, one of God’s greatest gifts to you. It is your soul’s voice.
