What If Healing Is About More Than Symptoms?

For much of my life, I believed healing meant finding the right treatment to make uncomfortable feelings disappear.

When anxiety became overwhelming, I did what many people do: I sought professional help, attended therapy, and tried medication. Those approaches helped to a point, but I couldn't shake the feeling that something was missing.

As I researched the topic for Intuitive Certainty, I learned I wasn't alone. Studies show that while medications can be effective for some people with anxiety, many continue to struggle despite treatment. In fact, long-term outcomes for generalized anxiety disorder reveal that a significant number of people never experience lasting relief.

That realization raises an important question: What if healing involves more than symptom management?

Alternative approaches often focus on the whole person—mind, body, emotions, relationships, and spirit. Rather than asking, "How do we reduce this symptom?" they ask, "What is out of balance?"

The word healing itself comes from the Old English word haelan, meaning whole.

That definition changed the way I think about wellness. Instead of viewing healing as fixing something broken, I began to see it as reconnecting with parts of ourselves we've ignored, neglected, or forgotten.

What if your body isn't working against you? What if it's trying to guide you toward what needs attention?
