The following is adapted from Intuitive Certainty Chapter 8, “After I Was Fired, My Whos Showed Up.”
After a session with Dr. Doris Cohen, a regression therapist who helped me recognize patterns in my life, I started seeing repeating numbers everywhere. I would glance at the clock and see 3:33 or notice 444 on a license plate. When I mentioned the patterns to Dr. Cohen, she called them angel numbers and encouraged me to notice what I had been thinking about when they appeared. Curious, I researched the meanings assigned to them. Some associate 111 with awareness and new beginnings, 444 with stability and protection, and 1111 with support and guidance.
When 1111 appeared on my odometer as I questioned whether I should walk into a meeting I was dreading, it felt reassuring. I stopped brushing off the patterns and started noticing what was happening internally each time they did.
At the time, I wondered whether these numbers contained messages I was supposed to decipher. My understanding has since changed. I don’t believe numbers are hidden or magical codes. However, numbers are woven throughout Scripture and often carry symbolic meaning that points to God’s order and design. For example, three is associated with divine completeness and the Trinity. Seven is associated with God’s perfection.
The numbers themselves don’t hold the answers. Their appearance simply reminds me to notice what I’m sensing and look for what God might be showing me.
Sometimes ordinary things—a recurring number, an animal, a color, a feather, or even a penny on the ground—catch our attention at just the right moment. Notice what you were thinking or feeling and why the moment stood out. If patterns continue, record them. The purpose is not to search for secret messages, but to become more attentive. The more consistently you pay attention, the easier it becomes to recognize and trust your intuition.
